Manager arrested after firefighter seriously injured on picket line

A man believed to be a striking firefighter has been injured in a collision with a car outside Croydon fire station—and union sources have told Socialist Worker the driver was a manager.

The London Air Ambulance was called to the scene, and the picket is believed to have serious injuries.
One man, thought to be the driver, has been arrested.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added: “Police are investigating a collision between a car and a male pedestrian at 3.25 this afternoon on Old Town, Croydon.

“London Air Ambulance and police attended. The man has been taken to hospital and we await assessment of his injuries.

“One man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”

And a London Fire Brigade spokesperson told the Croydon Guardian: "During demonstrations at Croydon fire station one person believed to be demonstrating has been injured after being hit by a car.

"London Ambulance was called at 3.20pm and a man has been taken to hospital with pelvic injuries.
"Due to a large number of protesters at the station and that incident, we have suspended the use of that station."
